Vingroup Proposes 250km/h High-Speed Railway Megaproject: Vinhomes Green Paradise Stands to Reap Golden Benefits

    The nearly 49km railway, proposed by Vingroup, could reach speeds of up to 250km/h.     Boosting Strategic Infrastructure in Can Gio

    In an effort to enhance transport infrastructure linking Can Gio—the southern coastal gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, the Office of the People’s Committee has announced the conclusions of Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong regarding key urban railway projects.

    Among them, the 250km/h Can Gio railway line proposed by Vingroup was assigned to the Department of Finance to urgently coordinate with relevant agencies, guide the investor in preparing a project proposal under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, and submit it to the People’s Committee before April 15, 2025.

    The railway line connecting downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio spans approximately 48.7km, starting from Nguyen Van Linh (District 7), running through Nguyen Luong Bang and Rung Sac Road, and ending at a 39-hectare site adjacent to the mega-project Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio.

    Key technical specifications:

    • Double track, 1,435mm gauge, elevated design

    • Maximum speed: 250km/h

    • Capacity: 30,000 – 40,000 passengers/hour/direction

    • Estimated investment: VND 102,370 billion (approx. USD 4.09 billion)

    • Implementation period: 2025 – 2028

    The project, proposed by Vingroup, will be funded through internal capital and legally mobilized funds, demonstrating a strong commitment to realizing modern infrastructure that supports urban and tourism development in coastal areas.

    In parallel, the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway, about 42km long with an estimated investment of USD 3.5 billion, is being prepared under the Ministry of Construction. It is expected to be submitted for National Assembly approval by October 2025, aiming to effectively connect the Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.

    Previously, the Prime Minister directed Ho Chi Minh City to urgently study and implement key urban railway lines, call for capable investors, and report progress by April 2025.
